Here is a selection of comment from the Assume Nothing comments book:

  • So, so fantastic. Awesome! Liberating, eye opening, empowering. This exhibition has real (authentic) socio-political currency congratulations Rebecca Swan, all her contributors, community and TheNewDowse, brave and very very excellent. Vinaka vaka levu BIG TIME Loloma levu, Ema Tavola Otara, South Auckland/Suva, Fiji.

  • First visit to the Dowse in over 20 years. Have just returned from 13 years in London. Exhibitions like this make me proud to be a NZer and soften the transition back in NZ life. Cheers! Sherryn.

  • Your honesty and vulnerability will help educate the ignorant, and will make the other generations of those that follow your path a little easier. Kia kaha! Shandell Padka May 2008.

MARK HUTCHINS GALLERY (JUNE)

Fabricated Truths was exhibited at Mark Hutchins gallery in June.  It is a series of mixed media and photography works, printed on a beautiful metallic paper in editions of 10.  They showed along side some music boxes that subverted gender sterotypes.

This new series explores what it means to reveal the essence of oneself to another. The passion of discovery, the tenderness of vulnerability, the desire to be seen, the minutiae of domesticity, the isolation of jealousy, the fear of risk, the peace of trust, the limits of attachment, the transcendence of the physical.

I was nervous showing you my favourite artwork. I wanted you to see what I saw. Mixed media and photography 2008 by Rebecca Swan
